Even though our house has been taken over by wires and other bangle-making supplies, I have to say that I am very proud of my wife. With her abundance of creativity, she has taken up a new hobby and turned it into … Continue reading
Dear Sweet Baby Girl,
On this day, one year ago, you were born. I didn’t know who you were at the time, but I was already praying for you. I was praying for your safety, for your precious little heart, and for you to know that you are loved. I had no idea how much you would change our lives.
In two weeks it will be a year since you came to our home. We have had the privilege and the blessing of watching you grow. We held you in the hospital for 8 days when you were sick, we witnessed your first words, we made it through the teething stages (you still only have 3 teeth…and you have been teething since you were 4 months old!!), we watched as you became more independent, we cried with joy at how much you and Ry love each other, we worked through the adjustment of having a new baby, we cheered as you started taking steps, we quickly learned how much you love food and that we needed to keep your plate full at dinner (or suffer the wrath of a hungry girl!), and so so so so so much more.
You call me “Ashley,” you call him “Dada,” and we call you “sweet baby girl.” I can’t even begin to express how much we love you. How blessed we are to have gotten to spend so much time with you. You have taken up permanent residence in our hearts.
Today you turn one.
Today I took you to court where decisions were made.
Today it became very real, this whole “of only for a little while” thing.
Today my heart breaks and fear overwhelms me.
However, today, and everyday, God holds your future.
Today God knows exactly what He is doing. One year ago, He saved you sweet girl. He has marked you as His own. He has plans for you that are so much greater than I could ever imagine! While those plans may not include us, know that we love you. I pray and will continue to pray for the same things…for your safety, your precious little heart, and for you to know that you are loved.
I know it has been too long since I posted! Things have been so hectic leading up to Brayden’s arrival.
Before I forget the details, I want to document our newest little guy’s birth story.
Two weeks before my scheduled c-section my OB did an ultrasound to measure Brayden. He measured an average of 2 weeks ahead of his due date. His legs measured 40 weeks and 3 days and his weight was 7 lbs 13 oz (Ry’s birthweight!) My OB told me that she expected Brayden to be right at 9 lbs when he was born. By that time I was miserable and just wanted him out!
The night before my scheduled c-section we went to dinner with some of my family. Rylan and sweet baby girl spent the night with family members since we had to be in Winter Haven so early.
On the morning of my c-section Matt and I arrived at The Regency at 6:00. My surgery was scheduled for 8:30. Expecting the OR to run behind, we told our families to wait to come to the hospital.
My last c-section was not scheduled, so I didn’t really know what to expect with this one. I have to say that the nursing staff at The Regency was amazing! From the time we walked in the door they started working and getting things going. I went into the OR right on time. The anesthesiologist had a little trouble with the spinal block, but once he got it, things moved quickly! They put the drape up and let Matt in. At 9:08 a.m. Brayden Lane was born. They let Matt stand up and watch him be pulled out, which was pretty cool. He came out screaming and peeing.
While she would happily keep sleeping throughout the night, Sweet Baby Girl is happy to get up and hang out with me…as long as it’s been at least 4 hours since her last meal. Once I provide the appropriate motivation … Continue reading
